Torre San Giovanni is the Marina of Ugento and has become its hamlet. In just a few years, it has been transformed from a small fishing village into a lively seaside resort with a tourist vocation, one of the most popular in southern Salento.

The seaside resort, a small fishing centre that has developed especially in recent years around the 16th-century Tower of Charles V, comes alive in the summer. The ancient tower has been converted into a lighthouse; this projects a red light at a certain angle to the south-west; this signal, together with a similar one from the great Leuca lighthouse, indicates the insidious Secche di Ugento (Ugento Shoals), located off Torre Mozza, to vessels.

THE BOATS

These are fibreglass boats, some of them with a wooden finish, equipped with diesel and petrol engines. The stability of the hull and the reliability of the engines make sailing a pleasure.
