Here, at the \u201cheel\u201d of Italy, the <strong>Adriatic Sea<\/strong> meets the <strong>Ionian Sea<\/strong>. The region offers vast beaches and charming seaside bays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is possible to explore the attractions of Santa Maria di Leuca on foot in an afternoon or evening. However, there are many other destinations nearby. The area around Santa Maria di Leuca is the perfect base for these activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Adriatic coast<\/strong> toward Otranto is quite rocky and offers fantastic views of the deep blue sea. On the <strong>Ionian coast<\/strong> toward Taranto, you\u2019ll find countless fine sandy beaches. In the evening, it is illuminated with the colors of the Italian flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next to the lighthouse is the <strong>Basilica of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae<\/strong>, an 18th-century stone church. The associated sanctuary and the large square are a favorite spot for newlyweds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the lighthouse, a path leads to <strong>Punta Meliso<\/strong>, the point that marks the end of the bay. On a clear day, you can see the mountains of Corfu and Albania from here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Punta Ristola<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At sunset, a walk to <strong>Punta Ristola<\/strong> is a must, where the sun disappears on the western horizon and the views of the rocky coast and sea caves are breathtaking. Punta Ristola is also the entrance to the <strong>Grotta del Diavolo<\/strong>, which descends almost vertically into the earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Caves of Santa Maria di Leuca<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both on the Ionian and Adriatic coasts, countless caves await, with crystal-clear or deep blue waters when the sun hits at the right angle. The best way to visit these caves is by boat. The tour lasts about three hours and departs from the port of Santa Maria di Leuca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The route first explores some narrow caves on the eastern coast, starting with the magnificent <strong>Grotta della Vora<\/strong>.
